SEGA is working on reboots of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, according to Bloomberg. According to the anonymous sources, it concerns games with ‘large budgets’ and is part of SEGA’s Super Game initiative. With Super Game, SEGA aims to create “recurring revenue” games.

The new Crazy Taxi game has been in development for a year, writes Bloomberg, and the company would like to release the game within two to three years. The publisher already indicated in the annual figures that it was looking at Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. No target year has yet been given for Jet Set Radio. The sources emphasize that the games are still early in development and can therefore still be cancelled.

The two games fall under Super Game, a company’s plan to create games ‘and services’ that can bind ‘a large community’. Super Game should generate $ 780 million in revenue for SEGA and should be a ‘Fortnite-esque hit’. In addition to Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, SEGA is said to be working on an FPS and another unannounced game. That fps is developed by a European studio. SEGA announced at the end of last year that it was working with Microsoft and Azure on the Super Game initiative.

Crazy Taxi first appeared as an arcade game in 1999. Later there were also console versions for the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2 and GameCube, and a PC version was also released. The latest Crazy Taxi game is Crazy Taxi: City Rush, a free-to-play game for iOS and Android, and was announced in 2014. In the Crazy Taxi games, as a taxi driver, users have to take passengers to their destinations as quickly as possible, getting extra points for performing stunts.

Jet Set Radio first appeared on the Dreamcast in 2000. In this game, players must ride roller skates through Tokyo, spraying graffiti and taking on rival gangs. An HD remake of the game was released in 2012.
