Bloomberg: Assassin’s Creed Rift postponed to Spring 2023
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reports that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game codenamed Rift has been delayed to spring 2023. Initially, the game was supposed to be released in February next year.
During a review of Ubisoft’s quarterly earnings earlier this week, the publisher announced that the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be pushed back to 2023 or even 2024, as well as discussing delaying a “smaller, unannounced game.” According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this is Assassin’s Creed Rift.
The game has not yet been officially announced by Ubisoft. In September, the company says it will reveal more information about the future of Assassin’s Creed. More may become known about the live service game Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
The new title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise may be set in the Middle East and was reportedly initially intended as an expansion for 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Instead, Ubisoft would have decided to make it a standalone title to to fill the meager release schedule this fiscal year, according to Bloomberg.
While only a few months away, the delay does have an impact on Ubisoft’s accounting, as the current fiscal year ends in March. The upcoming AC game would now move into the next fiscal year.
