Bloomberg: Apple will announce new MacBooks at WWDC

Apple is announcing new MacBooks at its WWDC developer conference. This is reported by Bloomberg journalist and Apple insider Mark Gurman. The company is also expected to showcase its first mixed reality headset and new versions of iOS, macOS and Watch OS.

Gurman writes in his weekly Power On newsletter that Apple plans to announce MacBooks at WWDC. Gurman does not report which models this concerns exactly. The journalist does write that Apple is working on a 15″ variant of the MacBook Air, which should be released soon. The manufacturer is also said to be working on an updated MacBook Air 13″ and a new MacBook Pro 13″.

At least Apple would announce some of those laptops at its WWDC keynote. According to Gurman, the laptops will be equipped with ‘something along the lines of an M2-soc’. Devices with an M3 chip, which are expected to be produced on TSMC’s 3nm process, would not appear until later. Apple is also working on a new iMac 24″ and a new Mac Pro with Apple Silicon soc for later this year. According to Gurman, the tech giant is also working on new Mac Studios, but they do not yet have a concrete release schedule.

Apple will also show new versions of iOS, macOS and watchOS during WWDC. The latter, Watch OS 10, would be a major release, according to Gurman. The insider speaks of ‘the biggest change since 2015’, when the first Apple Watch came out. Watch OS 10 would include changes to the interface, but it is still unknown what exactly those changes entail. iOS 17 would also include the ability to sideload apps. Apple will be obliged to allow this from next year due to new European legislation. Apple is also expected to show its first mixed reality headset and the accompanying xrOS operating system, which has been rumored for years.

WWDC will take place on June 5 this year. As in previous years, the developer conference will be kicked off with a keynote from the company, where the tech giant will share details about its upcoming software releases and sometimes showcase new hardware as well.
