The larger version of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will have a 1.9-inch screen with a resolution of 396×484 pixels, which is 16 percent more pixels than the current Series 6. At least that’s what Bloomberg claims.

The large version of the two new Apple Watch models that Apple is in development would have a 1.9-inch screen, while the current version has a 1.78-inch screen. The resolution goes up from 368×448 to 396×484 pixels to fit more information on the screen, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who regularly releases early Apple news based on his company sources.

The smaller version of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will get a similar screen magnification, the claim goes. The smartwatches themselves would only get slightly bigger: Apple would release them as 41mm and 45mm watches, where the current models have vertical dimensions of 40mm and 44mm respectively. The screens of the upcoming models would therefore have thinner edges than the current generation.

Apple is said to have designed watch faces that take advantage of the larger amount of pixels and Bloomberg cites as an example a Max version of Modular, which simultaneously offers the time, day of the week, temperature and quick access to an app. Also, a watchface would appear that shows all 24 time zones in one view.

According to previous rumors, the Apple Watch Series 7 will get a more powerful processor and a slightly modified case with flatter sides. Bloomberg previously reported that the dimensions are slightly larger. The new rumors follow reports that Apple is running into production problems for the smartwatch. Whether that will affect the release date is unknown. The smartwatches were expected to appear sometime in the second half of 2021.
