Apple is working on a thinner and lighter version of the MacBook Air laptop that will be released in the second half of this year at the earliest. Bloomberg claims that. The laptop would have a new generation M1 soc and a MagSafe connector for the power supply.

The new version comes as a more expensive option alongside the current model in Apple’s lineup, claims Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who often reveals accurate information about Apple’s upcoming products. The current MacBook Air with M1-soc would then continue to be offered as an entry-level model. Apple would try to make the new variant of the laptop smaller by narrowing the screen edges. The screen would maintain a diagonal of 13 inches.

The claim about the return of the MagSafe power connector to MacBooks was also made last week by both Bloomberg and TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Bloomberg does not give details about the new generation M1-soc. The question is when the new Air will appear. Rumor has it that it will be released in the second half of this year or in 2022.

The development, Gurman said, coincides with Apple’s renewed focus on the Mac, with the company deciding to bring back much-requested features like MagSafe. The MacBook Pro would also get a memory card reader again and would have to miss the criticized Touch Bar. Apple removed the memory card reader from the Pro in 2016. The status of Face ID for the Mac is uncertain, according to Bloomberg.
