Development of the macOS and Linux versions for Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night has been discontinued. The team behind the platformer needs more time to optimize the other features. Bloodstained will be released in the course of 2019.

Developer Koji Igarashi, former lead producer of the Castlevania series and creator of Bloodstained, has apologized for ceasing development of the versions. He and the development team believe that improving the middleware and the online features should be given priority.

Igarashi reports on the Kickstarter page that backers who have ordered one of the two versions can still modify their order. However, the creator is optimistic about the development process and reports that all other versions of Bloodstained are now being tested on the platforms.

It’s not the first time the developer has canceled a version of the game during Bloodstained’s development. In 2017, the development of the Wii U version stopped. Igarashi and his team had decided to develop a version for the then new Nintendo Switch. A year later, development of the PlayStation Vita version was discontinued.

Bloodstained was first announced in 2015. Within a day, the company reached the target amount of $ 500,000, converted 437,140 euros, via the Kickstarter page. The release date has been moved twice: first from March 2017 to 2018 and then to 2019.
