BlizzCon conference canceled this year
Blizzard announces that the BlizzCon fair will not take place this year either. The event is canceled due to the corona pandemic. The developer does report that it plans to organize a “global event” early next year.
“Setting up a physical BlizzCon show is an epic and complex affair, requiring many months of preparation,” BlizzCon executive producer Saralyn Smith wrote in a blog post. “That goes not just for us, but also for production partners, esports professionals, hosts, entertainers, artists and other collaborators we work with to bring the event together into a whole.”
The developer writes that the “ongoing complexity and uncertainties of the pandemic” is affecting his ability to properly prepare those fronts. “We’re now past the point where we would be able to host the kind of event we’d like to create for you in November.”
Although BlizzCon will not take place in November this year, Blizzard has announced that it is working on another event. Early next year, the company plans to hold a global event consisting of multiple “small, physical gatherings” and an overarching online show. The developer will share more details about that event at a later date.
BlizzCon was also canceled last year due to the corona pandemic, although Blizzard did hold a BlizzConline event in February this year. That show was held entirely online, as the name suggests. The company then gave details about the first World of Warcraft: Shadowlands update and Diablo IV, among other things.
