Blizzard will not be attending Gamescom in Cologne in August. The company says it wants to focus on developing current and future games. It will be the first time since the event’s inception ten years ago that Blizzard will not be attending.

Blizzard announced the decision not to be on the show floor of the 2019 edition of Gamescom on its site, without stating a clear reason. The American game developer indicates that it would like to be present in Cologne again in the future, although the company does not say when that will be.

It is still unclear whether the developer will also skip E3 this year, although Blizzard usually has no or no large presence at this American fair. This has to do with Blizzcon, Blizzard’s own annual event that takes place at the beginning of November. In addition, the company indicated in February during the presentation of the quarterly figures that it would not release any major releases this year.

Gamescom is the largest gaming event in the world in terms of visitors. Last year the event in Cologne attracted about 370,000 visitors, while the E3 in Los Angeles had to make do with less than 70,000. However, there will still be Blizzard merchandise for sale in the Gamescom store area.
