Blizzard: Warcraft isn’t fun enough for a remaster anymore
Blizzard got the original Warcraft working on modern systems, but won’t remaster the first two parts of the rts game. The game isn’t fun enough by today’s standards, says Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce.
Pearce said in an interview at Blizzard’s Blizzcon event that it was difficult to make the original code accessible. Thanks to a few go-getters within the company, however, we managed to get the code working and Pearce played the result. “Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was great for its time. Trust me, it’s just not that much fun these days,” he claims.
Blizzard would rather use the limited manpower to work on World of Warcraft, Overwatch or new projects “rather than go back and dig up those old fossils.” Co-founder Mike Morhaime rushed to add that this is currently the case, according to Eurogamer.
There have been rumors for some time that Blizzard is working on remasters of old classics such as StarCraft, WarCraft and Diablo. The company did not announce a separate HD version of the old Diablo during Blizzcon, but the company did announce on Friday that it has integrated the first Diablo game into Diablo III under the name ‘Darkening of Tristram’.
