Blizzard: Warcraft III and Diablo II aren’t ready for a remaster
Unlike StarCraft, Warcraft III and Diablo II will not get a remaster for the time being, Blizzard’s Classic Games team reports. With StarCraft the balance was already in order, but with Warcraft III and Diablo II still work had to be done.
Fans of Warcraft III and Diablo II had hoped for a remaster of those games at Blizzard’s BlizzCon event this weekend, but that announcement was not forthcoming. Speaking to PcGamesN, Peter Stilwell of the studio’s Classic Games team explains why the classic games are not yet eligible for a reissue.
As for Warcraft III, Stilwell points to complaints about a shortage of good maps on the game’s forum. “The other thing is that Undead only has a single build order. It would be great if we could tweak the balance a bit to help play the game in different ways,” says the developer. According to him, the aim is to get the balance in order just as with StarCraft.
With Diablo II, the problem would be that hackers regularly pollute the leaderboards. In particular, the community would ask here to deal with bots and spammers. Blizzard wants to get to the point where the player community is happy with the game as it is before it begins the extensive work on a remaster, Stilwell’s words show.
