Blizzard to experiment with microtransactions in Diablo III
Blizzard has announced a patch for Diablo III that enables microtransactions. The developer would not yet have plans to release the purchase option in the versions of Diablo III for the European and American market.
Patch 2.2.0 will soon be released in the so-called Public Test Region, according to Blizzard. After installing the patch, gamers would be able to perform microtransactions. Platinum is the preferred currency for this.
The possibility to carry out microtransactions seems to be exclusively intended for the Asian market for the time being; there are not yet any concrete plans to roll out the payment option in Europe and the US.
The patch also introduces three new Legendary item sets: Unhallowed Essence, Wrath of the Wastes, and Delsere’s Magnum of Opus. Three new Treasure Goblins will also appear in the game and new Rifts will become available, based on the Fields of Misery and the Festering Woods from Act I, the Stinging Winds from Act II and the Fields of Slaughter from Act III.
