Blizzard to connect low-player WoW servers to busier servers
Blizzard will merge World of Warcraft servers with relatively few players with realms with many more players in the coming months. The company aims to improve the gameplay experience of players on servers with a small population.
Blizzard says in a forum post that it has completed an extensive study of the population on every existing World of Warcraft realm. Based on that, the company has identified realms with a low player population. In the next two to three months, these realms will be connected to realms where it is a lot busier. Blizzard reports that it has been several years since the last servers were linked together.
This process will take place during the regular scheduled maintenance sessions, connecting a few realms to others each week. Blizzard says it will continue to do so until each realm with a low number of players in each region is connected to a substantially larger group of players. This plan also applies to Battle for Azeroth and not to World of Warcraft Classic.
Blizzard says that World of Warcraft provides the best experience with a community of other players around you and that the existing ways to participate in cross-server gaming sessions can’t prevent many aspects that are purely based on one’s own realm. According to the developer, a realm with a ‘healthy population’ offers more opportunities.
