Blizzard temporarily removes trading system from Diablo IV due to gold exploit
Blizzard Entertainment has removed Diablo IV’s trading system from the game indefinitely. According to the developer, some gamers are currently abusing a gold and item exploit.
An employee of the company writes: “We have removed Diablo IV’s cross-trading system indefinitely due to a gold and item duplication exploit.” It is not widely known how players can duplicate money and items, but on Reddit and the official Blizzard Forum Several reports have surfaced recently about trade requests offering billions of gold coins for relatively simple items.
It’s practically impossible to legitimately earn billions in gold in Diablo IV, especially in the game world of the first season. Players had to start building a character again three weeks ago for this season, including earning in-game currency. Therefore, it is likely that such amounts were not legitimately earned. According to Kotaku In addition to using exploits, people can also buy a billion gold for a few euros via gray markets.
Blizzard further emphasizes in the blog post that the use of the alleged exploit violates the terms of use. This weekend, accounts of several thousand players were reportedly banned for abusing exploits, although the developer has not yet confirmed this.
Until recently, players in Diablo IV could trade certain items among themselves for gold. Due to a previous controversy surrounding Diablo III’s in-game marketplace, Blizzard preemptively limited item trading capabilities in the newer Diablo game. For example, players could only trade common, magic and rare items, gems and elixirs. There is also no central trading place for players to go to and trade; people must approach each other in-game or agree in advance, for example via Discord.
