Blizzard stops using Battle.net brand name in desktop app
Blizzard has started rolling out an update to its game client Battle.net. After installing the update for the desktop app, references to Battle.net disappeared, which seems to be the end of the use of the twenty-year-old brand name.
Game website Polygon writes that Blizzard has removed references to the Battle.net brand from the game client via an update released since last night. The logo has been changed to the general Blizzard logo. Other than that, it doesn’t change how the software works. Incidentally, the website battle.net is still available under this URL, but it is unclear how long Blizzard will continue to use it.
Blizzard already announced last year that it would eventually stop using Battle.net. According to the company, using a separate name for the online game portal no longer made sense, now that such software has become commonplace. Battle.net was launched in November 1996, at the time of the first Diablo game. However, the curtain for the brand name now seems to be finally falling.
