Blizzard separates beginners from pros in Heroes of the Storm
In Blizzard’s new moba game Heroes of the Storm, new players will be less likely to face more experienced players as opponents due to a change in the game’s matchmaking system. As a result, Blizzard wants to make the game as accessible as possible.
This is a minor adjustment to the matchmaking system, Community Manager Spyrian said on the Heroes of the Storm forum. To keep new and more experienced players separated as much as possible, Quick Match mode takes into account how many Quick Match games the players on a team have played in the past. They will then be pitted against a team with a similar Quick Match history.
“It is still possible that new players will face veterans,” Spyrian added in his post. When a new player has an experienced player in his team, there is of course a suitable opponent. In addition, it may take longer for the Blizzard servers to find a suitable Quick Match for players now.
Blizzard is trying to market Heroes of the Storm as a more accessible game for new players than its competitors Dota 2 and League of Legends. For example, the game has a more extensive initial phase and items do not play a role.
