Blizzard responds to criticism in response to Diablo mobile game
Blizzard CEO Allen Adham has given several media interviews to explain the announcement of Diablo Immortal. That game comes out for Android and iOS, while many gamers expected a new PC and console game.
Adham, who works as an executive producer at Blizzard and is also one of the co-founders, spoke with Polygon, among others, trying to explain that while Diablo Immortal is coming to mobile devices, users of other platforms have not been forgotten and that the company has taken the criticism to heart. The CEO points out that several Diablo projects are still in development. No further details were given, so it is not clear when a possible new Diablo game for PC or console could be released.
Blizzard is releasing Diablo Immortal for Android and iOS because mobiles are more commonly used for gaming these days, especially by young people. Therefore, releasing Diablo Immortal is a way to reach this audience as well, according to Adham. In addition, the CEO thinks most people will change their mind about the new Diablo game once it’s released. Adham does say that internal discussions about the strategy regarding the announcement will be made, as a result of the many negative reactions. Adham did not elaborate on that either.
Diablo Immortal was announced last week, and almost immediately sparked a flood of negative reactions. Many gamers had expected a successor to Diablo 3, which is available for PC and console, so releasing ‘only’ a mobile version of Diablo led to disappointment.
