Blizzard has announced that Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has broken the 20 million user barrier. The free-to-play card game took six months to reach that number.

Blizzard has the number on Hearthstone’s Twitter account reported. The game was officially released in March, but the open beta was already available over a month earlier. With twenty million downloaders, it is not the largest free-to-play game. For example, in January League of Legends reportedly had about 27 million daily users.

Hearthstone is a card game in which players must strategically use their collection to defeat their opponents. By playing against the computer or other people, cards and in-game coins can be earned that give the possibility of in-game purchases. However, those who do not have the patience for this can also supplement their collection with real money. Blizzard also wants to earn money from the microtransactions and their expansion packs.

The game is currently available for PC, Mac, and iPad. The release date for the iPhones and Android devices has not yet been announced. The collections can be shared between the platforms. A player is therefore not tied to a single platform. The game can be downloaded for free from Hearthstone’s website.
