Blizzard negotiates crossplay in Overwatch with Sony and Microsoft cross
Blizzard is looking at more crossplay opportunities in its games. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan says the developer has had multiple discussions with both Sony and Microsoft about crossplay between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In an interview at Blizzcon 2018, Eurogamer asked Kaplan if Blizzard is in talks with Sony and Microsoft about crossplay. Because Sony has been open to platform-independent play since September, the website is curious whether Overwatch will get crossplay. Kaplan confirmed that Blizzard has entered into talks with both manufacturers.
“We are in constant dialogue with Microsoft and Sony to see where they stand and what they feel about it,” Kaplan told Eurogamer. Sony has not yet made a statement about the talks with Blizzard. Mike Ybarra, corporate vice president at Xbox Program Management, reports via Twitter that he wants to enable crossplay of all Blizzard games via Battle.net on PC and Xbox Live.
Kaplan also hints in the interview that Blizzard is open to developing a Nintendo Switch version of Overwatch. However, there have been no discussions with Nintendo about this and Blizzard has no concrete plans itself, reports Kaplan.
