Blizzard is working on Diablo 3 for Xbox One
An Xbox One version of the Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition is in the works at Blizzard, but there is no official confirmation yet that the game will actually come out for Microsoft’s console. The developer is working in parallel on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
The news is reported by Alex Mayberry, chief game producer at Blizzard, in an interview with videogame website Videogamer. The Xbox One version is being developed at the same time as the PlayStation 4 version, which has been officially announced. According to Mayberry, it makes more sense to develop for both platforms at the same time. “We did that with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. It’s just what we do. Blizzard and Microsoft can then work it out together.”
The Ultimate Evil Edition of Diablo 3 includes both the game itself and its expansion, Reaper of Souls. On the release date of the PlayStation 4 version, Mayberry says it “will not be long as the console team works in parallel with the main team and is not far behind.” The expansion for Diablo 3 will be released on March 25 for Windows and OS X.
In addition to Diablo, Mayberry talked to Videogamer about StarCraft: Ghost, the third-person game from the StarCraft universe announced in 2002. While there’s nothing concrete to say about it, Mayberry says the game may come out “someday.” “I think the idea can be executed just fine. It’s definitely something that’s still alive within Blizzard. We’d love to do it.” At the time, development of the game was indefinitely suspended due to the lack of computing power of the sixth-generation consoles. Whether there is enough to work with in the eighth generation is not certain. “Maybe we’ll have another look at it, but I don’t think it will be anytime soon.”
