Blizzard Entertainment will refund in-game customers if they purchase the special version of Drek’Thar in Hearthstone. Because the card has been weakened, the developer gives compensation to everyone who owns the card, including the ‘regular’ version of Drek’Thar.

Anyone who has purchased the cosmetic Diamond variant of Drek’Thar for 25 Euros or 3000 Gold will receive with Hearthstones Patch 23.2.2 3000 Gold automatically deposited into their account. Blizzard always compensates players when a card receives a nerf, but normally that is with Dust, the currency for crafting cards. Also in this case, unless it’s the paid Diamond version, everyone with the regular version of Drek’Thar will just get Dust back for the card. With Gold only packs can be purchased, not directly new cards of your choice.

The Diamond version of Drek’Thar was part of a special promotion in the month of April. Therefor Blizzard received via Reddit much criticism; critics say $25 or the in-game equivalent of 3000 Gold would be way too expensive for a card that differs from the regular Drek’Thar only in appearance. Especially since other Diamond cards can be earned by completing in-game challenges.

What’s little controversial is the fact that Drek’Thar did indeed have to receive a nerf. Decks with this card were bleached according to HSReplay statistics have an abnormally high win rate. By building a deck around this Legendary card, two extra minions could be summoned relatively easily until before the recent update. That has now been reduced to one extra minion.
