Blizzard fights coverage of Diablo III crossplay on consoles
Blizzard is fighting reports of crossplay between consoles in Diablo III. A Blizzard employee had said in an interview that crossplay between consoles within Diablo III is a matter of time.
“It’s a question of when, not if,” Business Insider quoted a Blizzard employee during a gameplay demo of Diablo III on Switch. According to that employee, the company is currently working with Microsoft and Sony to enable crossplay with the Switch. However, the company disputes this statement in a later response to Dualshockers.
The game is now available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, after having already appeared for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Crossplay within the same game on consoles is not obvious and sometimes takes a lot of effort, according to the example from Fortnite. Only recently did Sony make it possible to play the game with owners of the Xbox One and Switch. The company had resisted this for a long time.
The Japanese company then said it would make this feature available for other games as well. Earlier, Bethesda seemed to put pressure on Sony by stating that crossplay with its card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends would be “non-negotiable”. However, the Bethesda game Fallout 76 will not get crossplay, as it turned out recently. Diablo III comes out on November 2 for the Switch console in an edition that also includes the game’s expansions.
Update, 15-10: Blizzard disputes that crossplay will be possible in Diablo III, the message has been adjusted accordingly.
