Blizzard has announced that support for the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems is being phased out for a number of games. That means the games will no longer function on these operating systems later this year.

The news comes from Blizzard’s forums. In the message, the publisher mentions Diablo III and World of Warcraft, but also the games StarCraft II, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm. Although support for Windows XP and Vista will end later this year, no exact date has been announced. It is clear that after the intervention, all mentioned games will no longer work on Windows XP and Vista.

According to Blizzard, support for both operating systems has been kept intact until now because many gamers were still using them, although Microsoft ended support a long time ago. The changes will be introduced in phases, and Blizzard will provide more precise notices about the discontinuation of support for Microsoft’s operating systems in due course.

Blizzard recommends that if users are still using Windows XP or Vista, they upgrade to a newer version of the operating system. It is unclear exactly how many gamers will have to deal with the discontinuation of support.
