Blizzard has chosen to use patch 1.12’s Alterac Valley for World of Warcraft Classic. According to the developer, earlier versions of Alterac Valley had too many NPCs and were too hard to kill.

Blizzard says that when it comes to choices for different parts of World of Warcraft Classic, it chooses patches that offer the most ‘clarity’ and that would be the case with patch 1.12. For example, after Alterac Valley 1.12, reinforcements have been introduced and Commanders and Lieutenants have been removed, while the patches for it contain too many NPCs and too high a difficulty level, according to the developer.

“The only win conditions are to kill rek’thar in Frostwolf Keep or Vanndar Stormpike in Dun Baldar,” Blizzard further reports as a good trait of 1.12. However, the choice also means that troll boss Korak the Bloodrager from the Snowfall Graveyard will not be present, something that not everyone likes, according to the comments on Blizzard’s announcement.

Blizzard announced WoW Classic at Blizzcon 2017, but it is still unknown when the game will be released exactly, only that it should be this summer. Last week, the company announced the release schedule. WoW Classic will be released in six phases, starting with the introduction of the Molten Core and Onyxia raids and the Maraudon dungeon. When phases two to six will appear is not yet known and nothing is known about pvp yet. Blizzard is still working on it.

World of Warcraft Classic will be based on version 1.12: Drums of War. That’s the “most complete version of the classic experience,” according to developer Blizzard.
