Blizzard announces Overwatch 2 with focus on PvE missions
Blizzard has announced a successor to Overwatch at Blizzcon. The game has a focus on PvE gameplay, but also gets a new PvP mode. New heroes will also be added to the game. It is not yet known when the sequel will be released.
Overwatch 2 will have a PvE mode that seems to resemble Left 4 Dead. Players have been asking for such a mode for a long time. The trailer shows how several well-known heroes take on the Null Sector. In addition, the sequel will receive several new heroes. Blizzard has already announced one of these called Sojourn. Existing characters get a new look in the sequel. A total of 31 heroes will be playable in Overwatch 2. The game engine has also been upgraded for the new game.
The new game will focus more on the story behind Overwatch with PvE missions, and will focus on upgrading heroes and customizing skills. The sequel will have a new PvP mode called Push, which will be played by two teams of six players, just like in the current game. The Push game mode gets two new maps: Toronto and Rio de Janeiro. The mode should be competitive, and will also be played in the Overwatch League.
The game will have a “shared multiplayer space,” Blizzard reports. The current game will have all new heroes and playing fields, and progression from the original game will be carried over to Overwatch 2. Cosmetic items that gamers have unlocked will also be carried over to the sequel.
Overwatch 2 has been leaked recently. A report revealed that the game would get a PvE mode, and would include several new heroes. These rumors were confirmed this week. Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan made some comments about the leaks during his presentation of the sequel. It is not yet known when the game will be released.
