Blizzard Announces Diablo II: Resurrected

Blizzard announces Diablo II Resurrected, a new version of the 2000 RPG that will be released later this year for PC and consoles. The game is playable with the original 2d sprite-based look or a new 3d look with modern lighting techniques.

Blizzard hopes to release Diablo II Resurrected, a remake of the 2000 RPG, later this year. The game will be available for Windows, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The new version will be cross-progressed so that the progress made on one platform is also available on another. Whether that also means that the game will be available for free on all platforms if players have purchased it on one platform, is not known. It is known that Blizzard has also included the expansion Lord of Destruction in Diablo II Resurrected.

Blizzard lets players choose how they want the new version of Diablo II to look like. You can choose between the original 2d sprite-based look and a much more modern three-dimensional look, with modern techniques such as physically-based rendering and dynamic lighting. In that version all animations have been overhauled and the spells have been provided with new effects. Diablo II Resurrected can also be played in resolutions up to 4k. In addition, all music and sound effects are now available in 7.1 audio. Blizzard has also completely recreated all the cinematics from the original. It is a total of 27 minutes.

With Diablo II Resurrected, Blizzard is once again attempting to market a modernized version of one of its hit games. The first attempt was Warcraft III: Reforged that hit the market a year ago. However, fans were highly critical of the new variant. So much so that Blizzard was forced to give money back to disappointed fans.
