Following on from World of Warcraft Classic, developer Blizzard wants to release Burning Crusade Classic this year. This means that the first expansion for WoW will soon be available to play in its original form. The news about the Classic variant leaked earlier.

Burning Crusade Classic allows World of Warcraft Classic players to continue their journey through the original version of the mmog. Blizzard released the Classic variant of the game in 2019 and it is so popular that Blizzard will also release the first expansion for the mmog in its original form. World of Warcraft itself appeared on the market in 2004, The Burning Crusade in 2007. However, Blizzard has since radically changed the gameplay of the series, which does not sit well with all players. The Classic variant of WoW, in which the gameplay is like in 2004, is therefore very popular. Blizzard is building on this with Burning Crusade Classic.

Along with Burning Crusade Classic, Blizzard is introducing Progression Servers and Classic Era servers. On the Progression Servers, characters progress from WoW Classic to The Burning Crusade, on the Classic Era Servers everything stays the same and players cannot access the areas added in The Burning Crusade. Players are given the choice for each character whether they want to play on a Progression Server or on a Classic Era server. All current Classic servers will become Progression Servers, but players can move characters to the new Classic Era servers.

Blizzard also wants to offer the option to copy a Classic character, so that the character is available on both versions of the server. The copy option becomes a paid service. A level boost will also become available, giving players the option to create a character that is already level 58. That too will be a paid service.

Blizzard wants to gradually add the raids and dungeons of The Burning Crusade and has five phases in the pipeline for this. Well-known raids such as Tempest Keep and the Black Temple will be added in those phases. Blizzard hopes to bring the Burning Crusade Classic to market this year. Like WoW Classic, it will be free to play for anyone with an existing WoW account. There will also be a beta test for Burning Crusade Classic, which Blizzard says will start ‘soon’. The studio hinted that more expansions in Classic variant will be released.
