Blizzard and EA games had connectivity issues due to fiber issue – update
Several games from Blizzard and EA had temporary issues that caused players to struggle to start pots, lose connectivity during a game session, and experience high latencies. According to Blizzard and EA, the problems have now been solved.
Usually such issues with disconnects and high latencies are resolved fairly quickly because they are caused by an internal server problem, but according to Blizzard there were no issues with its own servers this time. The developer reports that the problem plays out in all kinds of regions and previously spoke of ‘fiber cuts‘ which caused connectivity and authentication issues.
Several Overwatch players have complained on Twitter that the issues have caused them to lose quite a few points for the ranked season, called Overwatch SR. This is because, for example, a map is loaded, but it is not possible to get into it, so that the player has no choice but to close the entire game, which leads to a significant loss of points. Blizzard advised these players to temporarily no competitive matches to play.
Update 9:45 am: The problems are now according to Blizzard solved. EA also had issues due to problems with a fiber optic connection, but according to the publisher most problems have now been resolved.
