BlackBerry after WhatsApp also complains maker Snapchat
BlackBerry has sued Snap, the company behind Snapchat. The charge follows one month after the Canadian company WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram accused for patent infringement.
BlackBerry accuses Snap of including the display of contacts on a card and the display of messages in a list to have copied, according to ] the indictment which Bloomberg press office was the first to publish . It involves a total of seven patents, of which BlackBerry is also used in the indictment against Facebook .
Specifically, it concerns the display of avatars of contacts on a map, time indications in chats, the displaying new messages in a separate list and displaying ads. According to BlackBerry, Snapchat has copied these interface elements without taking a license on the patents of the Canadian company.
BlackBerry was the world leader in chatting via smartphones by BlackBerry Messenger ten years ago. For a long time, BBM was a function that only worked on BlackBerry’s, even when users of other smartphones, including WhatsApp, WeChat, Kik Messenger and Facebook Messenger used to use. Snap has not yet responded to the indictment.
