BlackBerry releases Android 6.0 for Private
BlackBerry now supplies its Priv smartphone with Android 6.0. The company also says that all existing users will be able to update soon, although it is not clear exactly when an ota update will appear.
Just under two weeks ago, BlackBerry started sending the Android 6.0 firmware to testers. At the time, it was announced that the update should be available to all users in ‘spring’. Now BlackBerry has announced in a press release that the Priv will be sold with Android Marshmallow from Tuesday. This concerns devices that are sold via the American web store.
It is not yet clear when Priv smartphones in the Benelux will be delivered with Android 6.0, or when the update will be available here for existing users. According to the press release, the update should follow soon.
In addition to the innovations to the operating system itself, Android Marshmallow for the Priv includes an improved version of the DTEK app, which should give users more control over their privacy and protect against malware and hacks.
The Priv is BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone. The manufacturer has said it will come with two cheaper Android devices this year. New models with the BlackBerry 10 operating system are not planned for this year.
