BlackBerry is said to be working with at least two automakers to develop security software that scans cars remotely for viruses and malware. In case of danger, drivers would be advised to stop.

Reuters reports that based on a financial analyst, Gus Papageorgiou. The service, which would also be able to install security patches on a stationary car, is already being tested by Aston Martin and Range Rover. The anti-hacking tool could be released as early as next year. Users would have to pay ten dollars a month for it.

An Aston Martin spokesperson said in an email to Reuters that he is not aware of any such product being tested by Aston Martin. Range Rover spokesmen were unavailable for comment and BlackBerry spokesmen declined to comment.

In September 2016, BlackBerry announced at the presentation of the quarterly figures that it would stop developing its own smartphones. There will continue to be smartphones under the BlackBerry name on the market, but the Canadian company outsources the development to third parties. BlackBerry announced its new strategy last year. The company no longer develops hardware, but mainly focuses on developing software, including security products and applications.
