BlackBerry forces sale of Typo keyboards for iPhone
BlackBerry has won a lawsuit the company filed against the maker of the Typo keyboard case for the iPhone. As a result, the case with keyboard can no longer be sold, because it infringes BlackBerry patents.
The judge ruled on Friday in the case between BlackBerry and Typo Products, the maker behind the iPhone case, according to a statement from BlackBerry that Recode has published. This is still a preliminary injunction that has yet to be confirmed by a court decision. For now, however, Typo Products is prohibited from offering its Typo case with keyboard.
The Typo case is a cover in which the iPhone can be placed. A keyboard is built into the bottom of the case, so you can type in portrait mode. The case is suitable for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s.
According to BlackBerry, Typo Products is infringing its patents on smartphone keyboard technology and associated design. BlackBerry itself has released several smartphones with a keyboard placed under the screen. It seems plausible that the company wants to continue with that.
