BlackBerry adds 120fps slow motion feature to Priv
BlackBerry has released new apps for its Android smartphone Priv. This gives the camera the ability to make movies at 120fps, good for a delay of four times. New versions of the launcher and keyboard app have also been released.
Until now, with the 18-megapixel camera of the BlackBerry Priv, it was possible to make videos in ultra-HD resolution of 3840×2160 pixels at 30fps, or in full-HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels at 60 fps. The new BlackBerry Camera app adds a slow-motion function, in which the device records at 120fps. The videos are then played back at 30fps, so that the images are displayed four times slower than reality. Sound recording is not supported when using slow motion.
Furthermore, BlackBerry has updated its launcher. The new version’s app launcher sorts users’ apps into “recent”, “work” and “private” categories. Also, apps that are on a micro-SD card are now grayed out if the card is not in the device.
Finally, an update for the BlackBerry Keyboard has been released. The renewed app should provide better predictions and automatic corrections, both when using the physical and digital keyboard of the Priv. Processing emails and “social messages” should allow the keyboard to better understand the user’s typing style.
An overview of all innovations in the apps can be read on the BlackBerry blog. Private users get the updates automatically pushed to their smartphone via the Google Play Store.
