BlackBerry has acquired Good Technology for $425 million. Good Technology is a major provider of secure business mobile device management services and applications and was thus a competitor of BlackBerry.

BlackBerry will pay the acquisition amount of 425 million dollars, converted 382 million euros, in cash. The Canadian company says it wants to expand and strengthen its own portfolio with Good Technology’s secure mobile platform.

Good Technology is especially strong in multi-OS management, such as with iOS, Windows and Android. “In addition, Good has an ecosystem of more than 2,000 independent software vendors and applications developed for customers,” BlackBerry said.

BlackBerry has been focusing more on management and security of mobile applications and less on hardware such as smartphones for some time. In addition, the group focuses on cloud services and internet-of-things applications.
