Black Ops 4 gets new game modes, characters and weapons
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will receive new weapons, game modes and multiplayer locations in an update. So says developer Treyarch. The update is part of a new season, Operation Grand Heist, and according to Treyarch is the game’s biggest update to date.
Treyarch writes that the new game mode is One in the Chamber, an old acquaintance for Call of Duty players. It heralds the return of the Party Games modes, modes with alternate gameplay rules. In One in the Chamber, players get three lives and a pistol with only one bullet, killing another player gets an extra bullet and points. Whoever has the most points at the end wins the game.
Blackout, the battle royal mode, also gets an additional game mode, Hot Pursuit, which focuses on the three new vehicles. There is also the new Ghost Town location, a Western-inspired desert environment with underground tunnels. Additional multiplayer modes will appear during the game season.
The new Specialist, characters similar to the class system, is called Outrider. Her bow comes with an accuracy bonus and extra powerful arrows. Outrider gets a drone that can be placed at strategic points and tag enemies there. Outrider was also previously in Black Ops 3. Operation Grand Heist also comes with new weapons, including an SMG, shotgun and money bag.
In keeping with the heist style of the season, players who have purchased the Black Ops Pass can get started with two new cards. Lockup revolves around a police building in Los Angeles, while Casino is a luxury gambling resort in Monaco. The new update will be released on Tuesday for the PlayStation 4, the other versions will follow a week later.
Operations are thematic updates spread over several weeks. Earlier there were the Absolute Zero and First Strike operations. The next three Operations will come in the spring, summer and fall, Treyarch says.
