Chinese chip designer Bitmain announces mass production of the BM1391. It is its first 7nm asic, for mining cryptocurrencies based on the sha256 algorithm. Bitmain will equip Antminer systems with the new chips.

TSMC manufactures the 7nm finfet chips for Bitmain. The BM1391 mining asic consists of more than a billion transistors and offers a consumption-to-capacity ratio of 42J/TH. With the current BM1387 produced at 16nm, that is 98J/TH.

The start of mass production was announced by Wu Jihan, CEO of Bitmain, during the Digital Mining Summit in Georgia. Bitmain will be equipping several Antminer systems with the new ones, with some focusing more on performance and others more on economy.

Bitmain is the market leader with its Antminer systems. In addition, the mining pool Antpool, BTC.com and the tensor processor Sophon fall under the Chinese company.
