Security firm Bitdefender has released a new decryptor for the GandCrab ransomware. The tool can also decrypt ransomware with version 5.2. That is the latest version of the ransomware malware.

The tool is offered for free on the BitDefender website, as well as through NoMoreRansom, the partnership between companies and investigation services that offers multiple ransomware decryptors.

BitDefender already had decryptors for GandCrab, but they only worked on older versions of the ransomware up to 5.1. The new decryptor also works for version 5.2, which is the latest and most recent. Earlier this month, the group behind the ransomware announced that it would stop further development and distribution.

Thus, if a new version of GandCrab is no longer developed, all victims can be helped. The creators of the ransomware were constantly making new versions that trumped security companies. Just a month after the decryptor for GandCrab 5.1 came out, the developers released 5.2.
