The price of Bitcoin has reached the highest level in the history of the cryptocurrency. On Friday, the value of the virtual currency came down to about USD 1343, converted about EUR 1233. This means that the price is higher than the high of 1200 dollars in 2013.

The price can be read from the CoinDesk index, among other things. That site had previously published a notice when the price had broken the record but was below Friday’s level. The value of the currency has risen by 6 percent in a week. Over a period of one month, the increase amounts to 34 percent, TechCrunch calculated.

In addition, the price of Ether is also experiencing a strong increase. The increase in price amounts to an increase of 24 percent in a week. There is a correlation between the two currencies, according to TechCrunch, as many people trade Bitcoin against Ether. But that wouldn’t be enough to fully explain the appreciation.

Shortly after the start of this year, Bitcoin’s value already surpassed the thousand dollar mark. At the time, analysts expected the value to surpass the 2013 record level this year, in which they proved right. In that year, the price was at its all-time high until recently, after a very rapid increase towards the end of 2013. It then fell, which lasted approximately until the second half of 2015. When the value was around 220 dollars, after which the price rose again.
