Bitcoin price passes the $ 20,000 mark and hits a record high
The price of a single bitcoin broke the $ 20,000 barrier on Wednesday. The cryptocurrency thus reached the highest value recorded since bitcoin first became available in 2009.
The price of a single bitcoin passed $ 20,000 on Wednesday, December 16, according to CoinMarketCap. The price then peaked at about $20,820. Converted, this amounts to 17,106 euros. This has once again set a price record; the price already reached new records of 19,738 and 19,767 dollars respectively at the end of November and the beginning of December.
The value of the cryptocurrency has almost doubled in a relatively short time. At the beginning of October, the price of a single bitcoin was about $10,500. A year ago, in mid-December 2019, a bitcoin cost about $ 6,800. Two years ago, a bitcoin cost about $ 3,300.
Bitcoin price has never passed $ 20,000 before. The last time Bitcoin approached this price level was in late 2017. In the months before, the value of the cryptocurrency rose rapidly, but after the price peaked, the price fell.
