Biostar introduces its first SSDs

Biostar comes with the G300 SSDs, with which the company focuses on gamers. The SSDs from the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer will be available in a 2.5″ housing with storage capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB.

The SSDs in Biostar’s G300 series are 2.5″ models with a sata 600 interface. The controller is the SMI 2256, a controller from Silicon Motion that performed moderately in a test by AnandTech last year. The maximum read speeds are according to specification Biostar at 550MB/s, while the G300 SSDs write at 470MB/s.By the way, Biostar has also added an S100 SSD to its range: a variant that only comes out with 120GB and which has a Marvell 1120 controller.

The 120GB, 240GB and 480GB SSDs have successively 128MB, 256MB and 512MB DDR3 cache. The suggested retail price of the 120GB SSD is $44 in the US. Converted and with VAT that is about 47 euros. The prices of the 240GB and 480GB variant are 66 and 140 dollars. When and at what prices Biostar will release its G300 SSDs in the Benelux is unknown. It is also not clear what the manufacturer charges for the S100 120GB SSD.
