Biostar has released a matx motherboard with four memory slots: two for ddr3 and two for ddr4 memory. Intel offers a choice of both memory types with its H170 chipset, but most manufacturers go for one of both and not for both ddr3 and ddr4.

The choice of Biostar to support both memory types with the Hi-Fi H170Z3 with its Skylake motherboard, means that the maximum memory amount for DDR3 is 16GB and for DDR4 32GB. Of course, both memory types cannot be used simultaneously. The matx board also features a PCI-e slot for cards with the m2 form factor, which supports theoretical throughputs of up to 32Gbit/s. It concerns a so-called Gen3x4 socket, which can accommodate m2 cards with lengths of 30, 42, 60 and 80 mm.

Biostar releases the board under the ‘Hi-Fi’ flag and provides the H170Z3 with various techniques that should improve the audio quality, such as an independent power supply and gold-plated connectors. The board is also equipped with a PCI-e x16 and an x1 slot, four SATA 600 and a SATA Express connection, DVI, Displayport and HDMI.

The Hi-Fi H170Z3 is available immediately and is now in the Pricewatch for a starting price of 110 euros.
