Bethesda delivers Rage 2 as opposed to Steam without Denuvo drm
Bethesda delivers Rage 2 via its own platform without Denuvo copy protection, while the shooter on Steam does contain this DRM. As a result, a cracked version of the game appeared on the Internet within a day.
Reddit users noticed that the Rage 2 .exe file on the Bethesda platform did not contain Denuvo-drm. The steam version of Rage 2 does have this often criticized security. While release groups are also increasingly able to crack the Denuvo-drm itself, the release group Codex was able to easily release a pirated version of Rage 2 based on the DRM-free executable on the Internet.
It is not clear why Steam users do get a version of the game with Denuvo when purchasing on that platform. The DRM technology would have a negative impact in games. Many other games with Denuvo quickly fall prey to cracks. Metro Exodus was cracked within a week this year and a cracked version of Devil May Cry 5 also appeared on release day. The games from Denuvo that have not been cracked so far are Mortal Kombat 11 and The Division 2, this is because progression in these games is linked to online activity.
