Bethesda delays Wastelanders update for Fallout 76 until early 2020
The Wastelanders update for Fallout 76 will not be released in the fall, as Bethesda initially announced, but in the first quarter of 2020. The expansion will bring human NPCs to the game. The feature for private servers will be available next week.
Wastelanders did not have an exact release date, but when the announcement in June, Bethesda spoke of a release in the fall of this year. The expansion is now slated to be released in the first quarter of 2020. According to Bethesda, Wastelanders will be one of the biggest expansions the company has made and it will take more time to make it the “best, most polished” update.
With Wastelanders, the company wants to satisfy critics who felt that Fallout 76 felt empty. The free update marks the return of humans to the Appalachian Wasteland after the player’s attempts to build a new civilization on the remains of the old one. Also, the update means new enemies such as cannibals are coming to the game, as well as new weapons and equipment. Bethesda promises to release more details about Wastelanders in the near future.
In the meantime, work on private servers has been completed and this paid functionality will be available next week. According to Bethesda, being able to play via private servers was the most requested feature from the community. In addition to that, the ability to mod worlds will come to the game in the future. Finally, Bethesda plans to make changes to the Atomic Shop, events, and the Legendary Player system this year, as well as launch a public test server.
