Benchmark shows suspected GTX 1050 successor with 896 cudacores

On Geekbench you can see the test result of a laptop that contains an Nvidia video card with 14 compute units, or streaming multiprocessors. That seems to indicate the presence of 896 cudacores. The current GTX 1050 has a maximum of 768 cudacores.

The benchmark result, which was noticed by Tum Apisak, does not mention the name of the video card. However, it is clear that it is an Nvidia GPU that is in a laptop with a Core i7-8750H processor. It says the GPU has 14 compute units; Nvidia calls this streaming multiprocessors or SMS. With current GTX cards, each sm has 64 cudacores. If that is also the case with the new video card, it would therefore have 896 cudacores.

It is probably a new GPU in the lower segment, without RT cores and therefore with a GTX designation. Nvidia could call such a card GTX 2050 or GTX 1150. The GPU is combined with 4GB of RAM, although it is not known which type it is.

If Nvidia releases a video card with 896 cudacores, it will probably be faster than the GTX 1050 Ti with 768 cudacores, but probably slower than the GTX 1060, which has 1280 or 1152 cudacores depending on the version.

It is possible that the number of cudacores differs, if Nvidia chooses a different configuration of its SM. Current RTX cards also have 64 cudacores per sm, as well as RT cores and Tensor cores. Such cores are not coming to the GTX cards, so that space could theoretically be used for more cudacores.

Nvidia will probably announce new video cards in early January. The manufacturer will then present RTX video cards for laptops, according to details that appeared online earlier. The RTX series only includes higher-ranking models, such as the RTX 2060, 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti.

Although it appears to be a laptop GPU, it is likely that a comparable video card for desktops will be released. Since the arrival of the GTX 10-series, the video cards for laptops and desktops are almost the same.
