The Belgian bank Belfius has started offering Apple Pay for credit cards. Support for debit cards will follow later this year, the bank informed the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

This also includes debit cards from Bancontact, notes HLN. That would be the first time that Apple Pay supports the Belgian payment network. You can add a Belfius credit card to Apple Pay in the bank’s app under the ‘More’ tab.

By adding Bancontact support, it should be possible to pay with Apple Pay in all stores. That is not yet possible, because the payment terminal and retailer must have support for Maestro, Mastercard or Visa. Not all stores have that.

Apple Pay has been available in Belgium for some time at other banks such as BNP Paribas Fortis and KBC. Belfius has not yet updated the site to see how paying via Apple Pay works. It is unknown when exactly Belfius customers will be able to add debit cards. That support will come later this year, but when exactly is still unclear.
