Battlefield 2042 Open Beta starts in September
EA will start an open beta with Battlefield 2042 in September. Members of EA Play and people who place a preorder can get started with the public test version a little earlier. EA is also announcing Battlefield Portal, which allows players to create their own game modes.
It is not yet clear when the open beta will start in September. The public test will follow in the month before the game is officially released. The release date of Battlefield 2042 is October 22. The game will then come to Xbox and PlayStation consoles and Windows.
The arrival of the beta was announced with the introduction of Battlefield Portal. According to EA, this is a “community-driven platform” where players can create their own “experiences” with their own rules. Not only can you draw from the maps, weapons and vehicles of Battlefield 2042, but also from such content from Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.
Battlefield Portal consists of a toolbox with settings, custom modes and a Logic Editor. For example, it is possible to create 1942 versus 2042 matches with it. Portal mode was created by Los Angeles-based Ripple Effect Studios and it is one of the three major parts of Battlefield 2042.
In addition to Portal, the game contains All-Out Warfare, with well-known game modes such as Conquest, Breaktrough and Battlefield. The third mode is Hazard Zone, in which players play together in squads. More about this will be announced later. EA sees Battlefield 2042 as a live service and that will be accompanied by four seasons in the first year after release. Those seasons will in turn be accompanied by the arrival of four Battle Passes, four new Specialists, new locations, weapons and vehicles.
