Battlefield 2042 gets in-game voice chat

Developer DICE has released the previously announced 4.0 update for Battlefield 2042. With this, the necessary fixes and improvements are implemented, in addition to the arrival of the option to use in-game voice chat.

In the patch notes the developer writes that the Voice over Internet Protocol is now available in Battlefield 2042. Two voice chat channels will be available: for pre-built parties and for squads. This means that the possibility of voice communication is not possible for entire teams, which can sometimes consist of up to 64 players.

The settings for using voice communication in the game can be adjusted while playing the shooter via the main menu. Players can also set there whether the VoIP option is available by default for a pre-assembled group or for the individual squad once a round has started.

Another major change is the modified weapon attachment system. According to DICE, weapon attachments should now feel more unique and have a more noticeable impact. The developer writes that the attachments previously had effects that were insufficiently distinct, so that it was unclear to players what difference the attachments made. In the menu for the attachments, the advantages and disadvantages of adding attachments are now also more clearly described.

Additionally, the March modified in-game leaderboard in Battlefield 2042 is now also available at the end of a round. Initially, this leaderboard focused not so much on individual player performance as on squad stats. This team performance scoreboard received some criticism and was later transformed into a more traditional version that is now also visible at the end of a round. The latter was also a much-requested change.

earlier gave DICE’s community manager already indicated that the 4.0 update would contain more than 400 individual fixes and quality improvements. The update will be available to players on all platforms on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and according to the developer, it is an update that will not cause any downtime after downloading.
