DICE is setting up a Community Test Environment for Battlefield 1, in which the game developer can test run early versions of changes and additions to the game. Initially, this environment is only available to players of the PC version.

In the CTE, DICE can test new features, content, and other experiments that may come later or may never make it to the final game. DICE starts by testing the next update for the game in the environment. Battlefield 1 is not the first game in the franchise to receive a CTE. Battlefield 4 and 3 also have them. Other games, such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch, also have similar systems.

A Battlefield 1 Premium Pass is required to access the CTE. In time, players of the console versions will also be able to access the CTE. Initially, access will only be granted to select members of the Battlefield community and to “Veterans” who have demonstrably played several Battlefield games. Later, players who have registered via the Battlefield Companion App will be selected for the CTE.
