Battleborn will no longer be playable from January 2021
The shooter Battleborn, released in May 2016, will no longer be playable from January 2021. The servers will then go offline permanently. As of early next year, the option to purchase the in-game coins will already be removed from the game.
2K Games has already removed Battleborn from digital stores, including Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Games Store. The publisher says it is now in the process of phasing out the game. The publisher says it will use its efforts and money for other projects.
In concrete terms, this means that from February 24, 2020 it will no longer be possible to buy Platinum, or the virtual in-game currency. Trading and earning Platinum by playing the game is still possible. The servers for the game will remain active until January 2021. After that, Battleborn will no longer be playable, which also applies to the single player campaign.
The game from developer Gearbox Software was released in May 2016. Soon the developer added microtransactions to the game. The multiplayer part became free to play more than a year later. The last major game update came out in the fall of 2017. Then Gearbox already announced that there would be no more updates. This is partly due to Overwatch’s popularity; this similar game from Blizzard came out shortly after the release of Battleborn.
