Barnes & Noble chooses Samsung as a partner for Nook tablets
Barnes & Noble is going to launch tablets in its Nook series together with Samsung. The two companies have signed a partnership for this. The Galaxy Tab 4 will serve as the basis, with the retail chain placing its own Nook software on the tablet.
The ‘new’ Nook tablet from Barnes & Noble will be based on the 7″ version of the Galaxy Tab 4. This tablet runs on a quad-core Snapdragon 400-soc with a clock speed of 1.2GHz. The 7″ screen offers a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Samsung is running Android 4.4 on the tablet.
Barnes & Noble will install its own software on the modified Nook version of the Samsung tablet. This gives, among other things, access to the digital shopping environment of the bookstore chain. The tablet should be available in the US in August. The price is not known yet. Incidentally, Barnes & Noble let you know that it will continue to sell the Nook Glowlight for the time being.
Last summer, Barnes & Noble announced that it would stop making tablets in the Nook line for business reasons. For example, the company made a loss on the tablets. The company said it was looking for a partner. This has now been found with the deal with Samsung.
