Bankrupt eBlocker achieves crowdfunding target for publishing open source software
The bankrupt German eBlocker has reached the target for its crowdfunding campaign for its eBlockerOS. This makes the software behind the box for blocking trackers and advertisements publicly available.
By raising 6000 euros, it is possible to make the software publicly available in a version for the Raspberry Pi, reports eBlocker. After the bankruptcy of the makers of a box for blocking trackers and advertisements, former employees took over the intellectual property from the curator to make the project possible.
The required 6000 euros came in within 24 hours, the organization said. The next goal is to collect money for the maintenance of the software. The counter now stands at 58 percent. The organization wants a total of 3000 euros per month for this. The downloads for eBlockerOS have now been put online. There are versions for the Raspberry Pi and Banana Pi in various variants.
The future of the project is still uncertain. The crowdfunding efforts to build the black and white lists for eBlockerOS have barely raised any money so far. The German company went bankrupt earlier this year. The software has to compete with the well-known Pi-hole, which also works on Raspberry Pis and has about the same goal.
